Nine-year-old developer makes it to Apple's WWDC 2016
True talent has no age limit and nine-year-old Anvitha Vijay totally proves it. After successfully creating several apps for Apple, Anvitha - an Indian descent living in Melbourne, has made it to Apple's WWDC event and becomes the youngest attendee at the event.
According to Fortune , Anvitha, at a tender age of seven, had a dream of building a mobile app. On realising that $130 (her lifetime saving in piggy bank) was not enough to hire a developer who could develop an app for her, Vijay spent a year watching free coding tutorials online and learned the basics of programming. "Coding was so challenging," Vijay told Fortune. "But I'm so glad I stuck with it."
Apple under its scholarship program gives hundreds of free tickets every year to developers from around the world who are creating apps for Apple devices. Vijay along with 119 winners, most of them are under the age of 18, have been selected to attend the event held in San Francisco this year. WWDC is Apple's developer conference, which is organised every year in California and is one of the most important tech conferences held annually. "It's my dream to go to WWDC and meet Tim Cook," said Vijay.
Vijay's apps were inspired by her toddler sister, who was learning how to talk and identify animals.Smartkins Animals , an iOS app developed by her, helps to teach children 1000 different animals' names and sound using sounds and flashcards. She later developed another similar educational iOS app for kids to help them learn colours.
This is not the first time Vijay has made her parents proud. At a mere age of 3, she won The Student Edge Prize $10,000 Media Kit at OzApp Awards for her app called GoalsHi app , an interactive app for kids to learn and educate.
